  • Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

    Dear patient,

Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is closely monitoring the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the county and on the Monterey Peninsula. We have been working with the Monterey County Health Department, California Department of Public Health, and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on addressing any potential and positive cases.

We should all continue to remain diligent about preventing the spread of the virus even with the decrease in cases. Those with underlying conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are more susceptible to infection.

We encourage everyone to take the following precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19:

    Protecting yourself:
    • Wash your hands.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces at home and at work.
    • Shelter-in-place and follow Monterey County Health Department guidelines.
    • Avoid unnecessary contact with people who are sick.
    • Avoid large gatherings.
    • Get a flu vaccine to reduce your chances of getting the flu. Visit for more information.
    • Get a COVID-19 vaccine to reduce your chances of getting COVID-19. Visit for more information.

    Protecting others:
    • Wear a face mask when you have to go out in public to protect yourself and others, as COVID-19 can be spread before symptoms appear.
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately put the tissue in the trash.
    • Stay home if you’re sick. Call your doctor if you suspect you have the virus. Symptoms may include fever, cough, shortness of breath.

    If you feel ill:
    • If you have mild respiratory symptoms, call your doctor, or consider using Montage Health’s eVisit for fast, quality care from home. Currently, the eVisit program is free for those with respiratory illnesses such as flu, allergies, or COVID-like symptoms, visit
    • If you experience severe symptoms and need to visit the emergency department, please call ahead if possible.
    • If you have a life-threatening situation, dial 9-1-1.

Community Hospital tests people who have COVID-19 symptoms*, those who are scheduled for certain procedures, and everyone having surgery. We do not test for COVID-19 for walk-in community members with no symptoms.
*Community Hospital is not a testing-only site and does not provide free COVID-19 tests. COVID-19 tests are only performed after a medical evaluation by a doctor and when medically appropriate. For those who want a free COVID-19 test only, there are locations on the Monterey Peninsula who provide this service for those with and without symptoms.

Monterey County residents can now access free testing at sites run by the state. Testing is open to all community members. The testing sites were chosen by the state based on locations with an increased prevalence of COVID-19 cases. You can be tested even if you do not have symptoms. Schedule an appointment online at or call (888) 634-1123. For full information on COVID-19 testing, visit Community Hospital’s COVID-19 test information page for more information.
